Is there a place you could go
where, standing among the trees,
you look up into a canopy of branches
still leafless in their winter slumber?

Where the silhouette shapes are framed
by vibrant blue sky etched with clouds?

If so, then go. Perhaps leave right away.
Take yourself to a place where branches paint the sky
and your feet are on solid ground.

If you’re like me, you know you need this.
And if you are unsure about the urgency,
might I suggest that you need it too.

Standing among the old ones,
the trees that have seen so much,
is a necessary act of Wild belonging.

Most especially if the world feels lost to you.
If you find yourself ground-less and wavering
in a place overfull with humans.

Get to the trees,
I promise they will rescue you, if you let them.
Only if you let them.
They are not a pushy lot,
just generous with their many gifts.

And so, I am off yet again to the trees.
Perhaps I’ll see you there…
