Put your feet on the ground.
Really.
Take your shoes off if you can.
Dirt is good or grass, rocks…even pavement.
Put your feet on the ground.
Close your eyes.
Tune in only to sounds that center you.
Feel the air against your cheek.
See if you can feel or imagine
the rich deep pulse of the earth
Notice how your own heart naturally shares the cadence.
This is not an act of a radical tree hugger.
It is, rather, a survival tool.
The practice of rooting yourself, of aligning with something
beautiful and powerful and expansive.
Something not rocked by circumstance.
Something that will sustain you when little else feels solid.
Put your feet on the ground.
Breathe. Repeat.
Watch for those who have a little dirt on their shoes,
or perhaps under their fingernails.
Those who, like you, find solace and strength in Wildness.
I’ll see you there.
