Boundry Waters Trip

A Day on the River for Work Groups

What can a little bit of wilderness offer you and your work group or team? A Day on the River with The Wild Institute can help you:

  • Experience one another when not in a stressful environment, and bring that experience of less stress and therefore clearer communication and improved productivity back to the workplace
  • Discover new ways of supporting each other
  • Focus on what your team/group needs most (shared mission/vision; invigoration and inspiration; improved communication; collaboration and relational skills; etc.) and have some fun along the way!
  • Appreciate and acknowledge individuals or teams (sometimes these canoe days are used simply as a big "thank you" to teams/groups who have gone the extra mile or reached a significant goal)

The Wild Institute offers a one-day event for small work groups, boards, or teams that includes an easy 9-mile paddle on the scenic St. Croix River followed by a gourmet meal prepared by a professional chef. There are opportunities for one-on-one discussions and larger group activities during the day.

A Day on the River with The Wild Institute provides your work group with an experience in slowing down and going with the flow that allows for clarity, fresh ideas, and productivity.  It is a shared experience of balance, peace, and natural beauty that one might call the "anti-ropes course."  Rather than bonding around stress and challenge--we figure you already do that, probably every day at work--we create an environment where your group bonds around truly knowing each other in a safe and beautiful place, bringing that camaraderie and cooperation back to the workplace.

The Wild Institute owner, Chris Heeter, will work with you in advance to:

  • Clarify what you want to accomplish and how to make the day a success
  • Involve the groups and individuals in ways that best suits their needs (riding in the canoe rather than paddling, trading off, or programming other activities for those not participating in the canoeing portion)
  • Integrate the experience with your work group’s needs

The Day on the River takes place about 50 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul. The day is seven to nine hours in length and is available May through September.

Day on the river programs include guides with decades of experience in wilderness guiding and group facilitation, pre-trip consultation and planning based on goals of the company, canoe equipment, parking and park fees, snacks, and a gourmet meal prepared by professional chef.
